How to Select a Cement Power Resistor for Industrial Power Applications: 1W to 5W Explained

Latest company news about How to Select a Cement Power Resistor for Industrial Power Applications: 1W to 5W Explained

In industrial power supplies and electronic equipment, cement resistors need to be selected according to rated power, resistance value, working voltage and ambient temperature. For PCB or PWB applications, installation method and insulation requirements should also be considered.

The ROP series is a cylindrical cement resistor range available in 1W, 2W, 3W and 5W ratings. This power range provides several options for industrial electronic circuits with different load requirements.

Selecting the Power Rating

Rated power is one of the first parameters to evaluate when selecting a cement power resistor. The ROP series covers 1W to 5W, allowing engineers to select a suitable rating according to the circuit load.

The product document specifies that the rated power must be derated when the ambient temperature exceeds 70°C. Therefore, resistor selection should consider both the calculated circuit load and the actual operating temperature.

The document also states that the rated continuous working voltage (RCWV) should be determined by the lower value between the rated power multiplied by the resistance value and the maximum working voltage specified for the resistor.

Considering Dielectric Withstand Requirements

For industrial power applications, insulation and dielectric withstand voltage are also important selection factors.

The ROP series uses a ceramic tube flameproof construction. Its specified dielectric withstand test is AC 1000V for 1 minute, while the insulation resistance is specified at 1,000MΩ. These figures represent documented product specifications and test conditions for evaluating insulation requirements.

For industrial power supplies and power control circuits, engineers can therefore evaluate rated power, working voltage and dielectric withstand voltage together rather than selecting a resistor based only on resistance value.

Temperature Conditions and Power Derating

The ROP documentation specifies temperature-cycle testing from -55°C to +155°C. Its load-life test is conducted at 70°C under rated power load for 1,000 hours.

These figures should be treated as documented test conditions rather than a direct prediction of service life in every application. Actual resistor selection should still consider ambient temperature, load duration and thermal conditions.

Key Selection Parameters for ROP Cement Resistors

Selection Item ROP Specification
Rated Power 1W / 2W / 3W / 5W
Standard Tolerance 5%
Dielectric Withstand AC 1000V / 1 min
Insulation Resistance 1,000MΩ
Temperature Cycle -55°C to +155°C
Load-Life Test 70°C, rated load, 1,000 hours
Construction Ceramic tube, flameproof

For industrial power supplies and electronic equipment in European and US markets, cement power resistor selection can be based on several parameters, including power rating, continuous working voltage, dielectric withstand, ambient temperature and mounting requirements. The ROP series provides defined specifications across the 1W–5W range, together with AC 1000V dielectric withstand testing and a cylindrical ceramic-tube construction.
